Manx capital sparkles at Christmas lights switch-on

Crowds have gathered in the Isle of Man’s capital to see 77,000 Christmas lights burst into life at the annual switch-on event.

The illuminations were switched on in the busy high street with families from across the island watching.

The festive celebrations, organised by Douglas Council, also marked the start of late-night shopping.

Organisers hope the event provides a boost to retailers too as they gear up for Christmas trading.
