While Jack Leach has been keeping busy this evening, his namesake Joe Leach had a quiet first day of his last game in professional cricket at Worcester.

He spent most of it in the pavilion, waiting for his turn to bat - which will now come tomorrow morning - if the overnight weather does not happen as forecast.

But he did venture out of the pavilion just before the delayed start of play against Lancashire when Worcestershire held a public presentation to mark the 33-year-old Staffordshire-born former Shropshire player's 13 seasons as a proud Pear.

He was clearly too moved at the time to say much but he had recovered by the end of the day to it: "I’ve kind of sleepwalked into this week. I’ve not consciously ignored that it was coming, but today it has hit me hard.

"I was really nervous this morning. I was up really early and had butterflies in the stomach like it was my first game. But the fact we haven’t bowled yet has been a bit of a benefit and allowed me a bit of time to get my head around it.

"It was a lovely gesture from the club at lunchtime and it’s not going to be the first time this week I’m going to be close to tipping over the edge emotionally."

Liam Dawson is forward with a thick outside edge to deep third off Jack Leach for a single.

He has over 900 Championship runs and more than 50 wickets this season and goodness me, Hampshire need him at his best now.
