Somerset v Glamorgan 100-4

Billy Root pulls a short one from Kasey Aldridge and, although one hand flies off the bat as he plays the stroke, the ball flies high into the Nottingham gloom and plops into the stand for six.

Root has now caught up Sam Northeast on 25 and Glamorgan's total has advanced into three figures.

Alfie Ogborne's back on for his third over (of four, you'd presume) and it's another solid one from the left-armer until Sam Northeast cuts him crisply past the point fielder for four.

Only Northeast's second boundary so far and he's still below a run a ball. But equally, he's still there and Glamorgan may need him to force the pace in the death overs.

Billy Root's got a taste for boundaries now - he clips George Thomas firmly to the midwicket fence and the next ball, which is wide of off stump, is crunched decisively for four more on the other side of the field.

Glamorgan take 12 from the over and that's the sort of rate they'll need if they're to set Somerset a difficult target here.

Billy Root picks up his first boundary and it comes with a shrug of the shoulders afterwards given it was a thick outside edge which scuttles, ever so slightly red-faced, to the third man rope.

Glamorgan will take them however they come at the moment.

You’re always looking at 90-100 runs from your last 10 overs, round about that 170 marker would be something to go for but if Ingram comes off, who knows?

For me Sam Northeast is still not really getting his innings going, he hasn’t come to with the surface yet.

Given the altered playing conditions which have left this something of a hybrid between a T20 and a 50 over match, it is difficult to know where Glamorgan should be here.

But the sense they could do with a few more boundaries is hard to escape with just seven fours and one six coming from the first eight.

Colin Ingram nudges that up by one swivelling quickly on his back heel and pulling Kasey Alridge to the fine leg rope.

Colin Ingram has been Glamorgan's leading scorer in this competition with 286 runs and they need him to add to that this morning.

And they nearly lose him early with a tardy second run taken by the South Africa international.

The umpires have a look but he is in by about six inches.

That catch by Sean Dickson was almost worth the entrance money on its own, the sort of catch that will lift his side.

Leaping backwards to his left, clutching on with both hands – it’s one of the catches of the season.

Sam Northeast needs to get going.

It’s out or get out, they’d be shouting in the school team by now!

The splendidly moustachioed and mulleted Ben Green is into the attack for Somerset and he has applied the brakes well with this first going for just three.

He might have ridden his luck in the previous over but Will Smale has mullered that one from Alfie Ogborne, right out of the middle and over long one boundary with one bounce.

Ogborne responds with a cracker which straightens up from round the wicket. Too good for Sam Northeast on that occasion.

The Glamorgan batsman nods his head at a good one and proceeds to slam the final ball for six over midwicket.

Seven wides from Somerset and we’ve only had three overs – it’s poor discipline.

The greasy ball’s not going to be easy, that’s going to apply to both sets of bowlers because it’s not dry conditions out there.

Three boundaries for Will Smale in that second over from Josh Davey and not one of them were entirely convincing.

A slash leading edge through third man, a hack in the same area and another nick through the third man area again.

Still, 15 from that over so Glamorgan are up and running.

No hat-trick for Alfie Ogborne but he has put Somerset well and truly in the driving seat early with those two wickets.

Unbowed, Glamorgan are fighting fire with fire with two boundaries – a misfield from Archie Vaughan and a chip over third man - off the bat of Will Smale.

Play and miss from Carlson at Davey's second delivery, a punch down to backward point for one. Then, after a couple of wides, fellow opener Will Smale announces his arrival on stage with a firm belt over wide mid on for four.
